It is advised that the pill should be taken as early as possible, if possible within 12 hours after the intercourse to increase the chances of success.
How will they work?
There are three varieties of morning after pills available in the market. Pills using progesterone alone, pills using estrogen alone and pills using a mixture of both are the three varieties of morning after pills currently available. These are the same hormones which are used in birth control pills, here though they are in a more concentrated form. The morning after pill generally works in three ways. First, by preventing the ovaries from releasing an egg. Second, by altering the outer covering of the egg that a sperm cannot penetrate it and third by altering the lining of a womb so that a fertilized egg cannot attach to the uterus.
